Equine rehabilitation has a number of goals, including assisting in injury recovery, improving patient mobility, alleviating signs of illness and maintaining health through strength training. When a horse sustains an injury, extensive rehabilitative techniques are often required. Understanding traditional therapies as well as alternative therapies and having a more holistic approach can help address the concerns the owner and speed up recovery of the horse.
Because technology has advanced enormously there are many non-medical and medical therapy options available to horse owners who want to provide their horse with the best care possible. However, treatment duration and success depend on the individual horse and the owner’s ability and willingness to comply with the treatment plan. Because horses have unique problems, there is no standard therapeutic regimen and no guaranteed outcome. In many cases, a holistic approach using a combination of therapies may be required. Numerous therapies are available, and owners may find learning about all of them daunting or confusing. With Sport Horse Veterinary Services guidance choosing the best options and creating a custom plan for your horse will be much easier.
